A Correlation Analysis between Elementary School Students' Subjective Well-being and their Favorite Kind of Weather(FKW) Drawings

Abstract
This study investigated the correlation between elementary school students' subjective well-being and their FKW drawings. The participants were 1,088 elementary school students ranging from 1st to 6th grade in Gyeongbuk province. They were asked to answer a questionnaire measuring subjective well-being and the FKW drawing test. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0. A t-test was conducted to measure the gender difference in the participants' subjective well-being. A crosstab analysis was conducted to measure the gender difference in their FKW drawings. A correlation analysis was conducted to measure the correlation between the participants' subjective well-being and the characteristics of their FKW drawings. First, it was found that the participants¡¯ subjective well-being was on an average level. Their emotional well-being and relationship well-being was slightly higher than their efficacy well-being. Second, as to gender differences in the subjective well-being, female participants' relationship well-being was significantly higher than male participants' relationship well-being. Third, as to gender differences in the characteristics of the FKW drawings, significant differences were found in 5 formal factors(coloring energy, coloring stability, the number of used colors, spatial use, detail description) and 4 substantive factors(existence of dark clouds, existence of clouds, existence of lightning, and existence of snow). Fourth, significant differences were found between subjective well-being and the following formal factors(degree of coloring, the number of used colors, spatial use, detail description) in the FKW drawings.
